Comparison Is The Thief Of Joy...

Constantly comparing ourselves to others is a grim reality of present times. We always find someone more accomplished than us. So, we end up feeling incompetent every time. Comparing your status to others often produces envy and unhappiness. With social media being a platform to flaunt out lives, high expectations to be earning a certain amount, to own the latest materials to look a certain way- it’s only inevitable that we fall into this trap of comparison. It inflicts feelings of self-hate, wastes time, deprives us of joy and basically, there is absolutely nothing to gain from self-comparison. Now you have to come to terms with how pointless it is to compare our lives with someone else's- it does kinda seem stupid, doesn't it?

The realization that someone is always going to be doing better than us is the first step to putting an end to this pointless comparison with others. What really matters is how much we have grown in comparison to what we were in the past. The only person you should compare yourself to is yourself. If we compare ourselves to ourselves, then we are not only benefitting our lives but also helping others along the way. For example, if you haven’t been performing well in your exams, you can just think of it like you weren’t good yesterday, it’s time that I start and be better than yesterday. The results of this will honestly make you happy. These things challenge you, but benefit you at the same time. Along with this, you can also strive to be a better person; perhaps to make more of an effort to go out there and help others or to make someone smile who is having a bad day. When we help others, it helps in making a happier healthier version of ourselves. Sounds achievable right?

The reason why we struggle is that we compare our behind-the-scenes with everyone else’s highlight reel.
