The Inspiring Life of Cristiano Ronaldo

Before the glory, before the goals and the trophies, Cristiano Ronaldo endured struggles which you can’t even imagine. Cristiano was born on February 5th 1985 on the island of Madeira in Portugal. But he grew up in extreme poverty with his brother and two sisters. His family had nothing. Money wasn’t the only problem, his father Jose Denis Aveiro wasn’t involved in his son’s upbringing and suffered from alcohol addiction. He made friends and started playing football on the streets. He even skipped meals to spend more time playing football. At 11, his life took a decisive turn, he joined his favorite club Sporting Lisbon. He was living his dream. But this dream turned into a nightmare as he had no money, no family, no friends. At the time, he was so poor that he had to beg for food, he lived near McDonalds and asked for leftover food. Unfortunately fighting to fill his stomach was only a small part of his daily struggle. He excelled on the pitch but he struggled in school. He was failing academically and at 14 he lost it. He threw a chair at his teacher because everyone was making fun of him and the teacher did nothing to stop it. He was expelled from school after this incident.

When he was young, he was made fun of a lot. His teammates used to call him crybaby because he cried occasionally when he was angry. He loved to win and that is still the case today, but as soon as he lost or someone didn’t pass the ball to him, he would start crying.

From that moment on, he was determined to succeed and work hard. He wanted to prove that he could succeed and realized one thing, you are not the best when you believe you are, you are the best when you know it. Cristiano searched for ways to stand-out in his team. He used to challenge his teammates for sit-ups. He once lost a table tennis match to Rio Ferdinand (One of the greatest English defender) and was made fun of by his teammates, so he bought a table tennis table and practiced for 2 weeks and challenged Rio once again, and guess what Cristiano won against him. What is seen here is his mentality and his determination to win. He was different from the others. What stood out was his elite mentality, he worked harder than the others.

He kept working and with a lot of determination. He was convinced that all of his efforts and sacrifices would pay off. His performances at the training center were largely convincing at 17 years old, he made his senior debut. In 2003 he signed for Manchester United (one of the biggest clubs in football history) and his career took off. We all know what happened next, hundreds of goals, dozens of trophies.

Cristiano Ronaldo is a living legend. The Portuguese player continues to surprise the world despite his age. He is the perfect example that you should never give up. And we have to admire his longevity which is the result of a life full of sacrifices. He deprived himself of so many things to taste victory, victory in a fight that’s never easy to win, a fight against life and its terrible injustices. He didn’t have anything to help him succeed. Success can sometimes hang by a thread. He proved to the entire world that despite his origins or his social class, its possible to achieve your dreams. Being 36 now, he could have retired and lived a happy life with his family, but instead he decided to play in the best league of football.

If you could learn one thing from this man, its that you should never lose sight of your goals. Cristiano started from nothing, all he brought with him were two things, his talent and his immense determination. So never give up, be confident and don’t listen to people who doubt you. If you have a dream, you have to protect it and fight all the way to make it happen. And that is what makes him the GOAT (Greatest Of All Time) on and off the pitch.

‘Don’t let small obstacles be in the way of being victorious.

Remember, you are stronger than the challenges you face’

Cristiano Ronaldo.
