Insights from my Writing Journey!

It has almost been a year since I started proper writing. Before that, writing for me was just what you write in your English exams, those essays, letters, etc., etc. Although I won several prizes in essay writing competitions and scored well in writing skills, I was never that serious about writing. During the pandemic, the whole day was spent at home so I thought about writing a story. I finished writing the story and thought that let’s post it online, so I started posting it online. The response was amazing! That gave me extra motivation to write. And that’s how I got into writing! Personally, writing has helped me a lot. It helps me express all of my emotions, whatever I feel I just put into my writing, it keeps me busy and makes me use my brain to get more creative in the upcoming stories, so it’s been life-changing for me.

Whenever I write a story or something, the most common questions are, “You write so well, how do you come up with such ideas?” “How can you write anything this long; I can’t even write my school essays properly!” “I have things in my mind, what I have to write, but I can never present them” Well, here’s an answer to all of those questions.

How do I get ideas, well the answer is simple. Just look around, you’ll get loads of ideas. That’s what I do. I just get ideas from my daily life, whatever I see around, I just put them into my stories. Sometimes, unknowingly my friends provide me with some ideas, and from that, I make a whole story. Like from the basic key points, I form the story. If you are a beginner, I’d advise you to use simple language because it helps the reader understand. Whenever I start writing a story, I just scribble whatever comes to my mind. And then I make amendments to it. That’s just my style. I start writing without a plan, whatever comes to mind, is on the paper. After completing the whole thing, I first check it myself, then I ask my English teacher or maybe a friend to read it and ask their opinion, and only then, do I post my stuff. Reading books and small stories also helps a lot too, the moral of the story sometimes inspires me to write something. So yeah, that’s how I write a story.

I am not a dry texter (someone who sends short texts and doesn’t move the conversation forward). I like to write long texts and explain in detail instead of just a short description, so it’s natural that I’m able to write long. Even while talking, I talk a lot and in detail so I have the habit of making things long. So naturally, I can write long. You don’t always have to write long texts or stories, its just my style of writing [I struggle while writing summaries :)]

If you are struggling to put your ideas on paper, just write whatever small ideas that come to your mind, and from that, you can construct a whole write-up. If you are a free writer like me who doesn’t quite know what I will end up with, the best way is to write the ideas as fast as possible because once they fly away, they never return (which happens with me every time). You can also have a key idea in your mind, and from that, you can build your write-up. There are different ways of writing, you just have to stop being lazy, pick up your pen-paper or your notes, and start writing.

A special thanks to my English teacher Varsha Ma’am. Because of her, I am where I am now in writing. She helps me out so much, appreciates my writing but at the same time criticizes me too. I am grateful to have such a person in my life. You guys need that one person who pushes you, motivates you, and helps in your improvement. Then you need some of those friends who truly support you and your writing, appreciate and criticize at the same time, it helps a ton.

If you have any questions, I am happy to answer them. Thank you for reading, I hope you found this helpful. Happy writing!!! Have a great day!
